where to begin?

At the beginning, I guess.

Before the internet‍, shop owners had brick and mortar storefronts and a loyal customer base.
‍
Folks would swing by, and buy. They weren't just customers, they were your loyal community.

Then the internet came along.
‍
All of a sudden, there were two ways to set up shop online, and both well… kind of sucked.

Option A:
Use a bunch of clunky, complex, and expensive software to create an ‘online storefront’. 
‍
And then what? 
‍
No one knows what street of the internet your shop is on - so you need a PhD and a bag of money for ads to get folks to land on your store. 
‍
It spawned a whole slew of direct-to-consumer brands - which, you know, is great for them! 
‍
But, it left individual sellers by the wayside.

Option B:
Set up shop on Etsy or some other marketplace, and become a tenant in someone else’s store. It was easier, but it sucked the soul and money right out of your pockets too.

The way forward
